For as long as I can remember, I was overweight. There were times during high school, college, and graduate school when I followed fad diets and lost weight, but I inevitably gained it back, usually with a few additional pounds to boot. By the time I was in my late 30s, I was over 300 lbs, suffering both physically and psychologically, and it was starting to have a negative impact on multiple areas of my life. At that point, I decided it was time to take back control of my life, and I started with my health. Over the next 2 years, following the Primal Blueprint, I lost over 100 lbs. Physically, I now feel better than I have in years! I have come to realize how intimately related my physical and psychological health are. When I closely followed a primal lifestyle, I noticed that I woke up “on fire,” confident, happy, and ready to tackle the day.
Eventually, I realized that I wanted to help others who might be struggling in different aspects of their lives, and coaching seemed like a natural fit. As a university professor with a PhD in Psychology, I frequently “coach” students about their academics, their careers, and their lives. So I decided to branch out and work with others who are feeling stuck, as I was. I also study the psychology of passion, attempting to understand the psychological benefits of living a passion-filled life. I eventually came to realize that I am passionate about the coaching aspect of my job. I want to use what I know about psychology and health to help other people achieve their health and wellness goals.
I eventually became certified as a Primal Health Coach and plan to make health a central component of my life and health coaching practice. I want to show others how following a primal lifestyle can not only lead to better health outcomes, but also how it can impact psychological health and even motivate people to make important changes in other key areas of their lives.
My purpose is to help others realize that they are the authors of their own life stories and that they can make the next chapter amazing, regardless of what’s been written so far.
My mission is to teach people in the Harrisonburg, VA area how to apply psychology and the Primal Blueprint so that they can create amazing lives full of optimal happiness and vitality.
